Design Professional Liability Claim Scenarios

An architectural firm was responsible for the design of a sound barrier wall.

The applicable building code and industry standards required the wall to be designed to withstand a windstorm. The firm used wrong calculations, resulting in the wall not being able to withstand a windstorm. As a result, the wall fell over. The client incurred additional costs to rebuild the wall and other various property damage claims. The client filed a lawsuit against the architectural firm for damages in excess of $500,000.

The claim scenarios described here are hypothetical and offered solely to illustrate the types of situations that may result in claims. The precise coverage afforded by any insurer is subject to the terms and conditions of the policies as issued. Whether or to what extent a particular loss is covered depends on the facts and circumstances of the loss, the terms and conditions of the policy as issued, and applicable law.
